Pai Lum Blocking
Techniques
A novice student begins to learn the basic blocking techniques, clearing the zone
with a fist to block. This maximizes safety and insures that an incoming
attack is blocked or deflected. Over time, waist whipping increases the
power of the block. Seven star training increases the density of the
limb. Therefore, the block really becomes a strike. As a student
advances, smaller and smaller portions of the body are utilized in
blocking. The hard fist becomes a soft fist. Evasion techniques are brought
into training early, making a Pai Lum warrior very hard to strike. At
intermediate levels, the block and strike combination become one. At
advanced levels, the block all but disappears, favoring evasion and countering
techniques or blocking and striking with the same limb.
