Cost: more than $80 per month?

Stop at Black:  We have 70 + forms weapons and empty hand forms.

Only have MMA:  Most martial arts cover fighting on the ground, however, how long are you going to be able to submit yourself to that type of training?  After you lost your edge, then what?  The Chinese have produced incredible fighters for over 2000 years, not some fad that fades away.

Teach or know pressure points?

Have sparring and open hand forms?  

Older than a just few year years?   Kung Fu has been saving lives for over 2000 years and getting better with age.  

Being taught by a junior rank, not by the Senior Instructor?   Careful, you're going to be the next instructor, and be paying them to teach their classes for them.  You really don't think that these people are getting paid do you?  If they are, you're paying $150 a month for a student teacher.  Is that a good value?  

Have a Black Belt Club?  Why should you pay more for classes that should already be associated with your rank?  Most likely, you are not even ready to learn it just yet.  They probably didn't tell you this when you started because they didn't want to scare you away.  

Testing more than once per color rank?  If you have stripes on your non-black belt, this is you.  Run.

Is your instructor a higher rank than his age? It isn't jealousy, its ego.  It takes even gifted students four or more years to reach 1st level black, not two years.  If someone is under 30 with less than 10 years training as an adult and has a 4th degree black belt or higher, then someone has really appealed to his or her ego and gotten them to spend a lot of money for something that's not very solid.  That's right, $15,000 for what?   If you got mad at this, is it hitting home?   Worse, they are going to expect that you do it, too.  Hold onto your wallet.  What is important is that you learn the art, that requires patience and dedication and years and years of training.  

Bad Martial Arts Business:  Its people like this that have given Martial Arts a bad name and turned it into an after school kids activity.   Most Masters have started to market to Europe because that is where they can find more adults that want to learn.  Martial Arts are a real and worthwhile pursuit.

Don't feel bad, there are shysters in every business.  The good thing is you don't have to stay there.  When your contract is up, come see us.
